If you happened to drive by Creative Elegance Boutique on Market Street in Camp Hill on the evening of March 29, you might have wondered why there was a big tent with hundreds of people celebrating underneath it. But this party wasn’t for a birthday, a retirement or a wedding. Rather, members of the community joined together for this special occasion to quite simply celebrate life – and to raise money to help those who are fighting for theirs.
Kathy McCauslin-Cadieux, the owner of Creative Elegance Boutique was inspired to organize this unique event after the recent passing of her sister due to multiple myeloma. It was part of her Leukemia Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Man and Woman of the Year campaign where she personally aimed to raise $60,000 to help in the fight against blood cancer.
At the heart of her campaign was her “Party with a Purpose” fundraiser that was a spectacular celebration filled with delicious food, cocktails, dancing and even a fashion show. Kathy wanted this event to take place at her boutique, but needed additional space to accommodate the more than 150 guests. Event Central was honored to have the opportunity to help Kathy create an outdoor, heated venue for her party. It was a pleasure to work with Kathy and her team to design this unique space that reflected the special and magical reason for the event.
Kathy received overwhelming support from her friends, family and community as they rallied around her cause. Several caterers stepped forward to prepare a delicious menu. There was a band, photo booth, silent auction and live fashion show. Local businesses generously donated items and served as sponsors to make the event as financially successful as it was fun. Kathy also had a helpful team of employees who donated much of their time and talent to make the event possible.
All fundraising for the LLS campaigns came to a close on April 10 and Kathy was named the 2014 Harrisburg Woman of the Year! Kathy says that the most incredible part of her experience with the LLS campaign was feeling her sister’s energy with her throughout the entire journey. And it won’t stop here. Kathy plans to stay involved with LLS and to host an event like this every year. There is no doubt that her impact will change countless lives!
We all have our own talents and abilities and each one is an opportunity to give back. Kathy’s generosity and passion proves that we can still have fun and throw a great party while raising funds for a greater purpose.
