Ski Swaps & Tents mean Ski Season is Right Around the Corner

Four area ski and board shops have announced dates and arranged equipment rentals for annual Buy, Sell, and Swap Events.  The huge crowds attending Ski Swaps give each store a boost in pre-season traffic to show the full line of gear, accessories, clothes, etc available for the 2009 – 2010 Ski Season.   Typical Ski Swaps are held adjacent to each store, and many will feature tents and tables for boots provided by Event Central of Mechanicsburg.

Chief checks out the Stage Cover at Woofstock

Click here to learn more about HELPING ANIMALS with your friends at CPAA

Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance ------A wonderful group of area shelters and rescue organizations working together to save the lives of dogs, cats and other companion animals.

Woofstock 2009 was another  ”Barking” success, drawing over 1000 dogs of every breed, size and temperament.  Situated at Harrisburg’s Riverfront Park between the Civic Club and the Walnut street bridge with nearly 100 vendors, products included everything from dog clothes, food, snacks, trainers, neuter clinics, shampooers, nail clippers, birthday party hats, and on and on.

Woofstock Harrisburg is held the third Saturday of September at Riverfront Park

Since Chief does not have his own _mg_2220transportation, Jill and I took him to Woofstock, so he could man, ‘er “dog”,  the booth, along with several other volunteers for the Capital Area Greenbelt Trail.  Chief’s job was to greet the visiting dogs and share stories of his many experiences walking the Greenbelt.

We arrived early so we could check out the Stage Cover (20 x 20 tent on 9 ft 07woofstock1legs) installed at Kunkle Plaza as the main entertainment stage, as well as the podium for announcing winners of the Grateful Dog Walk fundraiser, winners of the Raffle, and various other activities.07woofstock-91
If you are interested in helping “Rescues”, or would actually like to help a certain breed, I urge you to look over CPAA’s RESCUE PARTNERS, made of good people who are furthering the cause of “No more Homeless Pets”.

For those who might be willing to donate time or money to CPAA, check out all the possibilities at their website http://www.cpaa.info/give.html  .

Meanwhile at the Capital Area Greenbelt booth:

Chief and Jill Rondeau, Past President of the Greenbelt wait for passers-by…

When a family walks by, Chief greets the new friend with a sniff and invites them in to look  at the Greenbelt map. The map shows the 22 mile linear park trail which runs entirely on the East Shore, connecting about 15 parks in various townships, Harrisburg City, county property, HACC, and State Hospital Grounds.

Hey, they let you “Little Guys” in too?

Chief and I head off to the Tented Stage to watch The Grateful Dog Walk awards presentation for fund raising, as well as one of the many scheduled music groups who played throughout the day.

And finally at the end of a long day,  relaxing for a much needed rest.

Budweiser Clydesdales Stable under the Tent

When Sue Weitzel, Executive VP of Brewery Products in York called to rent a 60 wide tent for the York Fair, it seemed to be a typical rental for America’s Oldest Fair.  But with a few more qualifying questions,  Brad Vasey – EC  learned that Brewery Products, the local distributor for Anheiser Busch products, has the privilege of sponsoring the the Clydesdale Hitch Team for it’s debut to the York Fair.

Central PA Golf Courses Prepare for the Summer Season

Many Central PA Golf Courses utilize tenting to expand their revenue and service base during the pleasant weather of the spring, summer and early fall.  The events range from corporate golf outings to wedding receptions to non-profit fundraisers.  In some cases, the tent compliments the indoor space that is used year round, while in others, the tenting is the only banquet space of any size for the facility.

LIBERTY FORGE – LOWER ALLEN
Liberty Forge Golf Course Crew were busy today topping the tent adjacent to the Driving  Range on Lisburn Rd near Lower Allen Park.  This tent is used as outdoor seating for the people visiting the Range, as well as a niche business selling ice cream cones to the many surrounding housing developments in the 3 mile radius.

Liberty Forge recently entered into a contract with the Altland House to provide Banquet Catering at the facility previously known as The Wedge.  The well-appointed post and beam building at the top of the hill will accommodate up to 250 guests in the main room, and has smaller meeting rooms for up to 75.

Ben Hough runs the Hospitality arm of Atland House.  Under this division,  they also provide similar services at Ski Roundtop, Valencia Ballroom, York Expo Center, Majestic Theatre in Adams County, and Penn National Golf Course of Franklin County.   A grand opening is tentatively scheduled for May 15.  Bookings are handled at sales@altlandhouse.com or  phone (717)848-8257.

REGENTS GLEN – YORK
Regents Glen’s annual tent setup also took place today by the 5 man EC crew.  EC provides a take down, cleaning, storage, and setup service for companies who prefer to make the capital investment in tenting rather than renting them for the season.

CADDY SHACK – MECHANICSBURG
Caddy Shack at Armitage Golf Course in Hampden Township is also scheduled to install their deck  tent for the season on April 14.  Caddy Shack uses their tent as a 19th hole for golfers as well as dinner service with entertainment many evenings.

B & B’s and Golf Course’s Expand their capacity with Semi-Permanent Structures Installed for Summer

20mx30m-7

Interior view of Structure - Wedding

The Extruded Aluminum Box Beam Structure is the most substantial fabric structure available for tenting .  They are well suited for high-end corporate events such as Olympic Venues and Pro Golf  Tour sites which require large clear spans.  They also have their place in seasonal long term installations at B&B’s and Golf Clubs.

Bed and Breakfast’s lend themselves to this type of tenting if they are hosting weddings frequently and want to avoid the wear and tear to the property by rental tents being installed week after week.  From a guest standpoint, B&B’s are a wonderful place for a wedding reception. They typically have an open, rural setting and are well-landscaped with nice, flat areas for installation of tents.  It simplifies the transportation issues for the bridal party with consolidation of parking,  accommodations and reception on site.

Golf Courses love the structures as well as a natural extension of their revenue generating capability.  Who wouldn’t enjoy having their reception on a well-landscaped property with vast rolling greens.

Regents Glen Interior View - 15x30 M Structure

Regents Glen started using this White 15 x 30 Meter structure installed adjacent to it’s historic Box Hill Club at the top of the hill.  As the business model changes, the structure adapts, as was the case when Regents Glen relocated this structure to the Golf Course, adjacent to the 19th Hole.  It is installed on a pad with bolt-in piers.

For years, Liberty Forge  Golf course used this 20 x 30 Meter structure to create additional outdoor banquet capacity.  They eventually closed down due to a noise-related PA LCB law that they could not get an exemption for.  They still hold ceremonies under tent, with receptions indoors, with site management and catering provided by Altland House.

EC also offers annual maintenance service contracts to take down, clean, and store fabric and/or frames for any type tent, be it lease/purchase or customer-owned.  The lease/purchase options are available if you want to spread the purchase out over the first 3-5 years of revenue production. The frame has a useful life in excess of 20 years.  The fabric life is dependent on use, placement and handling.

Ski Roundtop announces it’s Last Day – Sunday Mar 22

eastern-region-nsp

Ski Roundtop announced their closing date last night, and it is starting to sink nspin. . . . . I am going to have to go back to work soon.  It’s almost time to put away my Ski Patrol  Uniform, and resume my full time event management roll.

This was an exceptional year of weather for the PA Ski areas.  It is unusual to have such consistent cold temperatures, and ideal snow-making temperatures just when you need them.  I started skiing as a young child, but only got back to it 12 years ago, when Mike joined the Good Hope Middle School Ski Club.  Now he’s in Florida working with Clear Channel Radio and I’m still on the slopes.

Ski Roundtop is about to roll out a new summer program planned with the installation of 3 great outdoor activities, The Ogo Ball, Canopy Tour, and Summer Tubing.  It is exciting to be part of such a forward-thinking organization. They will also concentrate on marketing Corporate Picnics, and Outings for groups from 50 to 2000.  It will provide an outdoor alternative to Hershey Park,   one of the many large group entertainment facilities in the Harrisburg Area.

ogo_going_down

Ski Roundtop has been a customer of Event Central/Taylor Rental, going back to the early 90′s.   Roundtop’s customers can look to Event Central for additional picnic capabilities with the use of Tents, Tables and Chairs for the Large Corporate events.  Often such tenting is contracted by the end user directly as was the case with the Start/Finish Line (Green/White) Tent provided for the Ski4Life  fund raiser last month for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  To secure the tent from the harsh winds a special anchoring system was devised by  the Tent Lead – Jeremy, who has some 10 years of experience with these types of installations.  The anchors tied into the 50 Inch Snow base, and provided over 2000# of holding force in the snow pack.  The tent was then used as a timing tunnel where the skiers were scanned for credit for each run.  Ski4Life  raised $55,000 in 14 hours of running.  There were beginners and experts alike skiing this event.

LPGA Futures Tour at The Links

The Links at Gettysburg were busy this week getting ready for the Ladies Pro Golf  Tournament.  Event Central provided the Tenting for Scoring, Hospitality and much more.

Tenting on a golf course is always interesting, and this event was no different.  It is critical that we deliver our product without impacting the site adversely.  For this event, the conditions were wet, and light trucks were the order.  We opted to deliver with our specially fabricated tent truck which is lighter than the normal Party Store truck, yet able to carry the long aluminum poles that are one of the hallmarks of our trade.

Other services available to The Links include Specialty Linen Rentals,  Chiavari Ballroom Chairs and Elegant Chair covers to name a few.

Press Conference – Hershey Park

It is Mid October, 2001. The park is closed for the season, The Antique Auto Show has come and gone, and Hershey Park has their sights on the 2002 Season.

Nestled in between Sidewinder and Wild Cat, they set up for a Press Conference to announce the Super Soaker. An industry first, something that will allow Hershey to differentiate their park from all others. Under the tent, HERCO (Hershey Park) displayed large scale Drawings, Colorful Artist Renderings. Add a nice Catered reception, and the affair was under way.

Whether you have a Ground Breaking, Building Dedication, or a Memorial Service, our tents can be made to accommodate any size crowd, and most any site, Grass, Blacktop or Concrete.
