Most tent stakes are installed between 2 and 4 feet deep. Safe tenting begins with knowing what is under ground prior to installation.
This includes all tent installations, such as:
- Residential Back Yards
- Universities
- City Property
- Ground Breaking for construction projects

42 inch stake

Pennsylvania State Law

Drawing Credit - Anchor Installation Guide

Law requires contractors and tent installers to contact the PA One Call System to locate all underground utilities prior to installation of tents where below-surface anchoring is used.

WHO MAKES THE CALL!

The tent company scheduling the installation must make the call to request public utility marking at least 3 business days prior to the installation. PA One Call provides this service coordination on behalf of all utilities so the customer will not have to guess what utilities exist on their site.  When requesting the service, we provide a general description of the area of the property where the tent will be is located. The markings are usually done with spray paint on the grass, black top, or concrete surface.

The customer is required to arrange ground markings of all private utilities underground at the site where the tent is to be installed. The tent rental company can not be held responsible for accidentally damaging an private underground utility when its location is not physically marked.
Markings should include private utilities such as
:
* sprinkler and water lines
* electrical and communication lines
* sewer and storm water drain lines
* any other underground utilities particular to the property

Pennsylvania Safety Days Training

Every year,  PA One Call holds Safety Day events across the state to help increase the public and contractor awareness of different products and services that are available to promote safe operations.  The recent event included vendors of specialized digging products, workplace safety presentations by OSHA, hands on displays showing cause and effect surrounding underground activities.  Event Central has provided tenting to support many of these Central PA events.

Emergency Shelter – Losberger RDS – Rapid Deployment System

Mayor Giuliani - Photo Credit - Newsweek

When disaster strikes - Ground Zero

RDS – Rapid Deployment System is an acronym you will be seeing more and more if you are involved in the Emergency Response Community. Losberger-Germany recently held an open house & training event at the Losberger-U.S. plant in Frederick, MD.  The event was used to showcase over 20 different RDS systems and their various accessories such as power distribution, HVAC, decontamination facilities and much more.

What do FedEx and Losberger RDS system have in common?

What do FedEx and Losberger RDS system have in common?

Event Central - located in Pennsylvania’s capital seat is working with the Losberger U.S. RDS  Team to promote the shelter system to the various organizations,  associations, and lobbyist groups in PA who support the interests of Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) and FEMA.

And so it is in every state where forward thinking Emergency Management Agency’s are including the purchase of Rapid Deployment Shelters into their budgets. This also gives them the opportunity to take advantage of Federal and State funding that is available through grants to State Emergency Management Agency’s (EMA) and First Responders.  Using services like FedEx,  EMA’s can provide rapid shipment of emergency shelters by air to any point in the US.  A disaster occurrence in Joplin, MO at 2pm, with a call to the EMA by 4pm could mean a 100 person emergency shelter is up and running the next morning, helping disaster victims.

In order to support this initiative , Losberger Europe has shipped several sea containers of RDS inventory to their Frederick, MD manufacturing and distribution facility. Losberger also provides extensive support by linking customers of its RDS product to various integrated partners to provide HVAC, power distribution, lighting, and large structure rentals.

  • Aviation crash site
  • Temporary hospital

Below are some pictures taken at the Frederick Training Event.  The shelters were installed in a vacant warehouse adjacent to the Distribution Facility located near the Airport. There were over 50 organizations in attendance.

New Years Brings Harrisburg’s First Annual Event of the Year

We are extremely grateful to keep servicing the same customers and venues year after year. With the turn of a new year, we aim to keep the same customers and their annual events. In a business like ours, working side by side with other companies who serve the event business is an everyday occurrence. Many of our new customers don’t realize that we work closely with a number of wedding/corporate venues in the area on a daily basis during the busy summer seasons. I consider all the companies and venues we work with part of our team, and that we all have the same goal in mind, making the event the best it can be for our customer.

Harrisburg’s Center City New Year’s Eve Celebration is one such repeat Event and Venue. For over 5 years, we have helped put together the holiday celebration in downtown Harrisburg under the giant strawberry at the Hilton. Due to the location, we have to be in and out as quickly as possible in order for traffic to move smoothly. This requires a 2:00 am tear down of all equipment in below freezing temperatures. Substituting the traditional celebration for a night at work in these conditions is just another day for our crew, who cannot be thanked enough. However, each year we are called back for an event like this, we are stronger because we understand the site and details of the event more than the last.

The equipment used at the New Year Eve party include a high stage, stage cover, and anchoring without damaging the municipal street surface.  The top picture shows is actually the Lighting Companies projection on the Stage Cover that was used like a Screen.

Budweiser Clydesdales Stable under the Tent

When Sue Weitzel, Executive VP of Brewery Products in York called to rent a 60 wide tent for the York Fair, it seemed to be a typical rental for America’s Oldest Fair.  But with a few more qualifying questions,  Brad Vasey – EC  learned that Brewery Products, the local distributor for Anheiser Busch products, has the privilege of sponsoring the the Clydesdale Hitch Team for it’s debut to the York Fair.

Dog Whisperer meets Horse Whisperer

This post is a follow up to a comment that was left today by Susie Drake which really made me smile.    When I get a comment, I like to know how the customer’s needs tied to our rental services. I learned from the website www.parellinaturalhorsetraining.com that the company was that of a person I only knew as the Horse Whisperer, one of the most skilled Horse Handlers I have ever known.  I wish I had known he was visiting at the Farm Show so I could have watched him train in person.

parelli2

You see, I don’t watch much TV, but my favorite show The Dog Whisperer, is Reality TV the way TV ought to be.  In it, Ceaser Millan, a Hispanic dog trainer has shown me the answer to every bad dog problem I have ever heard of.  As Ceaser says “I rehabilitate dogs. I train people“,  taking struggling dog families and helping them back on track.

ceaser-pat

In a recent show, Dog Whisperer meets Horse Whisperer Ceaser meets for the first time his equal Pat Parelli who I have since learned is renowned for his way of working with difficult horses habits.  In my youth, I was a “B” Pony Clubber and I know how significant Pat Parrelli’s skills with a “challenging steed” is.  This day, they combined their skills to help out a dysfunctional animal family of dogs ”Chloe and Hobo”, and a horse named Cupcake.  As with every episode with the dogs, I was equally blown away by Parelli’s hand with the horse.    If only Pat had been around to work with my mom’s pony Bilbo!  More than once he tried to take a nip out of me.

ceaser1

Whether you are a dog or a horse lover, you will find this show great fun to watch with children and grandparents alike.  Search Google for lots more information on both Whisperers .

Catch this show Fridays at 8PMceaser3

Maybe Ceaser could convince Chief to stay off the couch when we are at work

Hey Ceaser, How do I break CHIEF from thinking he is the Pack Leader around our House?
